The Fountain

 "The Fountain"
and comes from
"Jill Oxton's Cross stitch and Beading"
Book no 96.
I changed the bead colours to be able to use the beads that I already had.
Added the flowers that run up the grey wall.
And changed the bottom of the fountain from a rock
to a urn with flowers.
Using Delica Beads size 11.
Nymo thread size D.
And made using the
square stitch method.
Beaded piece measures 20cm x 30cm
or 8 inches by 12 inches.

Jill Oxton books are no longer in print.
You can still find them on Ebay.
I have also found them in OP Shops.

Beaded White Tiger

I beaded this White Tiger for my husband's son Wesh. The pattern was for an amulet, which is available in  Jill Oxton's Cross Stitch and Beading Weaving  issue no.66.
Being that I wanted to frame it,I added a black beaded background.
The work is beaded with Delica size 11 beads and Nymo thread size D.

I used the Bead Tool program to add a small amount to the bottom of the tiger pattern,to give him a little more roundness,as the pattern had a straight edge, given that it was supposed to be an amulet.
The pattern called for white cotton to be used, but showed between the dark beads,on the shadow side of the image,to overcome this I used Beige.
The black border was done with the black nymo thread, using two threads, one for each side of the tiger.
When reaching the part in the pattern for the tiger,I then swapped to the beige nymo, picking up the second black thread when I reached the other side of the tiger and using it for the black beads.
The threads were interlinked between the border and tiger,by running the white thread of the tiger through a couple of black border beads, always making sure that this was done on the back side of the work.
Where the white nymo thread showed through the black beads, when turning for the next row,I then coloured the white cotton that showed between the black beads with a black coloured felt pen.By slightly parting the beads and colouring the thread.
Took a little bit of time, but I think it was worth it.
The beige worked well, but it did turn the white beads slightly dull,to overcome this problem, when finished,I ran a double white nymo thread size D,through the beads, making sure that it ran in front of the beige thread, this lightened the beads, and it worked a treat.
When doing this part make sure that you use the thinnest beading needle possible,as not to break the beads.

Beaded Cabochon Brooch

Cabochon brooch
I used Delica beads size 11 no.689
Delica size 15 bead no. 4122.
Nymo thread size D
Glass Cabochon 40 x 30mm
Collage Sheet
Ultra Suede
Brooch clip.

The brooch is made by gluing the picture to the glass cabochon.Beads are then placed around the cabochon and 3 rows of peyote stitch using size 11 Delica beads are added to the base row, changing to size 15 Delica's for the next five rows, which brings the bead work into a smaller oval.
The cabochon is then backed with the brooch pin and ultra suede and then added to the bead work.
Two rows of Peyote stitch are added in size 11 and 15 Delica beads to the back of the work to hold the cabochon in place.
One row of  the 689 beads are placed around the edge and then size 10 seed beads were added to this edge to make the small picot edge around the brooch.
This is the first beaded Cabochon brooch, that I have made and was quite pleased with the result.
And happy to say that Connie loved her gift.

Beaded Case for Scissors and Needles

This beaded scissors case is made using Delica beads. The main centre foundation row is beaded in a single ladder stitch.
Which upon the rest of the case is worked using brick stitch following what looks like a cross stitch pattern, beading from the centre, back and forth, working outwards to the edge.
Then repeating for the other side. This case fits a  9cm (3.75inch) embroidery scissors.
I adapted the pattern for the scissors case from the needlecase pattern,to make a matching pair.
The needlecase is beaded over a small wooden needlecase using peyote stitch .
Pattern for the needlecase is from the book by Jennie Might called Beaded Needlecases.

Beaded Owl
