Half Doll Niki "Out for a Stroll"

This charming doll called Niki was dressed by my dear friend Margaret Greeney of Launceston(Tas)

Margaret used the pattern called Miss Lucy by Anlaby.

Using beads 698-DY and D.M.C.cotton 333.

And lace of your choice.

This pattern uses 3 hanks and 2 Balls of Cotton.

3 x 57cm(22.5inches) of fine 25mm(1.5inches) lace.
Choose a fine lace as this works better than a thicker lace.

Tip

Although the pattern stated that it took 5 hanks to knit.Marg required only 3 hanks to complete the pattern.

The waist of this skirt need's to be decreased to between 28 to 32 stitches,this will depend on the tension at which you knit.
Which means around 52 stitches need to be decreased in the band,to fit the dolls waist.
To get the right amount of stitches needed for your waist band,follow the instructions given in the tutorials,Video no.3."Learn how to make a fitted waist band.And use the gauge method around the waist,to see how many stitches are required to be decreased.
Because each person knits at a different tension,the number of stitches required will be different from person to person

So the dress isn't too long for the doll.
Finish knitting the pattern up to and including row 71
This band starts at row 72 in the pattern.

1st row..."Knit 1,slip 1 Bead" repeat " to " to end of row.

2nd row...Knit

3rd row...Purl

4th row..."Knit1 K2 tog."repeat " to"  to end of row

5th row...Purl

6th row.."Knit 1,K2 tog" repeat "to" to end of row.

7th row...Purl

8th row..."Knit 1,K2 tog" repeat "to" to end of row

9th row...Cast off.

I always do a running stitch just under the waist band,because over time the cotton will sag with the weight of the beads,and the waist will slip down the doll.Doing the small running stitch will prevent this from happening.
This method is also explained in the tutorials in Video no 8.
